So......how to start this blog.....
I've once again changed my plans of attack. HOWEVER! I believe that this new idea will come out to have a lot more potential, but most importantly it will offer so much more excitement. I am teaming up with JJ Choi and Steve Ng to deliver you a project like no other......a videogame. This coincides with my first idea when starting the genius project which was to make a videogame, but I had zero to no experience in coding, programming, or any of that computer nonsense. But my two friends (mentioned above) do. But they can't (arguably) draw. But I can! This collaboration not only combines two of the things that I wanted to do for this project but also synergizes well with our different talents and skill sets. I am so excited to begin this process but things are going pretty slow at the moment, due to college applications and whatnot. But the one thing we have discussed about is deciding our game engine. The RPG Maker Series were a great start as they eliminated the handicap of designing our own game engine from scratch. But for now....there's not much to talk about besides the fact that this next step will serve to be a catalyst for something great. I am sure of it. Hi guys!
So here's what's been going on so far. So you guys already know the people that I emailed, and not much has happened since then. However....Mrs. Meyers might be my saving grace within this situation. She has already contacted the art teacher here at Sage Creek High School in order to help me find a mentor that will actually communicate with me. The guidelines that I told her is that the mentor must specialize in digital art and in Japanese aesthetics. I really want to make this happen so that I can actually make my project move forward. Seeing all my peers already on the speed petal on their own individual projects only motivates me more to do my best to provide the best I can through my own. But there's many things that still worry me. I continue to be confused on what exactly I want to do. Make an animated film...? Create a Manga (Japanese Manga)? Host an Art Exhibition for my Art pieces? OR document my piano progress There's so many things that I am interested, even if they are facets of each other. I can only hope for the best. Thanks for reading guys! This concludes my 4th blog post for my genius project! Hello everyone!
So at the current moment I emailed 4 possible mentors. However, it has already been a week since I emailed these mentors, one of them spanning almost 3 weeks. It's unfortunate that I'm not getting any reply from these mentors since their help will make my project go all the more smoother. The list of mentors I've emailed: -Lilypichu (music, animator, youtuber) -Domics (animator, youtuber) -A-1 Pictures (a professional animation studio in Japan) -Loundraw (a Japanese digital artist) So, that's the bad news. Luckily the good news is that I'm still progressing through my project. However, without guidance, I fear that I will go down a path where my Genius Project fails to reach its vision. So please God, let my emails reach them.... Anyway! What you were all looking and anticipating for! (yes I look at the comments, thanks guys!) Hello everyone!
So this is going to be a quick blog due to time constraints. But progress with my genius project is going dandy. I plan to share my journey of making my manga on these blog posts sooner in the future, so stay tuned! :) However, I do have to say a few words. At the current moment, I have emailed a mentor that I am highly anticipating a response from.... Hoping to get a response! I nailed down what I want to do now, so basically the idea for the video game is going to be completely scrapped and replaced with me using my drawings in order to animate most hopefully a 20 minute ish sequence. Unlike the genius projects that the seniors presented this year, I actually want to complete mine as well. I discovered many various programs such as macromedia flash, anime studio, inkscape, paint tool sai, photoshop, etc. You can probably assume that I have some experience in the field of animation. But unfortunately, the only facet of the programs that I can use to the best of my ability is my main drawing program: SAI. I’m “working” on a manga at the moment, but I haven’t gotten the handle of animating my drawings. That’s why I want to ask you for your help in animating, because I know it’s a lot more than meets the eye. My genius project which I have decided will focus on my drawings and animating them into a full 20 minute ish film. What’s a genius project you ask? Well, it's a project assigned to all students in their junior year of High School, and eventually due near the end of their senior year. And there were many students who took the idea of animation as the main consensus for their projects, but no one, in my opinion, produced an animation of any sort. I felt very motivated and intimidated towards the future of my senior year because of this. This is a very awesome image on the programs that I need to accomplish my goals. WE CAN DO THIS! Blog #1: Progress (2/2/17, 11:58 PM) I have an idea of what I’d like to do, but I haven’t nailed down the specific direction. Please don't ask me why I am doing this blog post so late. If I could answer that in one word it would be: Life. Anyways, the idea for my Genius Project is to create a video game, but not just any generic video game. I plan to create a video game which will speak to the hearts of anyone who plays it. How I'm going to do it? Well that's the problem isn't it? I plan to start a Kick starter campaign where I can find ideas and money in order to fund this project. I'm making it sound that I'm creating a mass marketed game, but not really. I'm going to use a program called Gamemaker Studio in order to make the game, which is totally free and accessible. The aesthetic of the game will have a retro, 8 bit style, which I hope doesn't make you close this web browser in a sigh of disappointment. I want to prove that "old school" games can deliver an impact as strong as games that focus on graphics, frame rate, resolution, etc. I'm taking a lot of inspiration from Undertale, a game that takes on a underwhelming facade, but surprised the entire gaming community with its story and nontraditional mechanics. I also plan to make the music for this game with FL Studio, the same program the developer for Undertale used for his music in the game. This is bit of an OCD of mine, but for each blog post I make, I will add a "commemorative" picture that I created myself, in order to satisfy my ego using a program called Paint Tool SAI with a Wacom tablet. I plan to launch the program as soon as possible, preferable after my SAT test coming this March of 2017. Quick Edit: I already got a backer! Only one, but that doesn't matter at all! Thank you, Shigeru! Let me dedicate my first drawings to you: I know that I said before that I didn't solidify my ideas for my project yet, but I think I am already getting a very solid idea of what I am going to do from this point on. Stay tuned! (I will be putting up the Kick Starter link to my project on this website after I finish setting it up) |
